Last night Fox had an encore for the series premiere of "Fringe" which was folllowed by an exclusive first look at an extended scene from Keanu Reeves' The Day the Earth Stood Still.
The film co-stars Jennifer Connolly, Kathy Bates, Jaden Smith, Jon Hamm, and Kyle Chandler.

"The Day the Earth Stood Still" is 20th Century Fox's contemporary reinvention of its 1951 classic. Keanu Reeves portrays Klaatu, an alien whose arrival on our planet triggers a global upheaval. As governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery behind the visitor's appearance, a woman (Jennifer Connelly) and her young stepson get caught up in his mission – and come to understand the ramifications of his being a self-described "friend to the Earth."

They have missed the point ans evidenced by the rediculous action scenes and the destruction. Klaatu's point is to avert destruction. They have no understanding of the original. Hollywood needs to make new original movies intead of simply ruining classics with remakes that have no understanding of the stories literature.

It looks like a crappier version of the new war of the worlds, and that movie really sucked so how bad should this one be. Studios stay stealing ideas, can't they come up with their own aliens destroy earth senario. Let me know I prolly could write a better script, and keanu would def not be in it!

There are no creative people left in Hollywood. Those who can create have gone to other activities. Those left only understand one concept. Find a classic movie, add death and destruction, prop it all up with special effects, make money on video rentals and overseas sales. This travesty of a movie proves my point. Someday, maybe creativity will return to motion pictures. When it does, I will return to the theaters.

Well the writers watched independence day toooo many times! This doesn't comapir to the original. Again the boring writers went WAY OUTSIDE the context of the original. They should have titled this movie "THE DAY INDEPENDENCE DAY STOOD STILL"

This was an all time favorite movie. Cult status. A remake is smart however it appears too far left of the original message/intent. It is a shame that they appear to have veered off course with this movie. Even today, when on tv, we watch it like it was the first time

This would have been better suited as a folllow up to the original. Where the earth did not comply to the warning of taking nuclear arms to space and is set for destruction by the robot cops. If Reeves' character is Klaatu trying to save earth from destruction then it may work

I think Keanu is perfect for this role. The original was a fun movie - campy, but fun but this looks fresh. I like the idea of making the aliens a little less friendly. Hell, if I was an alien and got stuck in traffic in my city, I'd be willing to blow the whole thing up.

Go too far to the right and you wind up with a lot of fantastic, Flash Gordon, horseshit -- go too far to the left and you get something like Contact. -- real, authentic, but dry and terribly boring as most science is. Where is the talent amongst the writers these days? Who out there can find that delicate balance? I wish I had written this script -- I could have done a lot better.

I like the idea that it should have been a sequel. A cheap remake following the exact storyline would have been fine, with cameos. But they get these grandiose visions.

i dont get the comment...only kids i've seen in sci-fi have been with cruise(war of world) and jada&will's kid (neither of which are half anything). just cause a kid is light skinned w/curly hair doesn't mean they're mixed...good grief get a frellin life!

the kid playing the step son of lovely jennifer IS Black not half anything...it's Will Smith & Jada Pinkett's son. as for the movie it seems to be veering greatly from the premise of the original, which is my all time favorite. and mr rennie was more human than, mr reeves. His attitude seemed more like one of an adult dealing with children and young adolesents. Keanue is more robotic (at least in the ext.trailer). maybe he should have played Gort (LOL!) and of course we are all waiting to see the fabulous kickass GORT.

god, people stop with the race thing. geneticaly speaking, its very possible for two dark skinned people to have a very light skinned child that you would swear was half white half black. if you dont believe me look up melamin and genetics. to go on a tangent, im no professional on this movie or its origional, but couldnt the child be addopted as well?

That kid was the most annoying attitude filled brat and he completely distracted and ruined the film. Everyone watching this agreed completely. It was obvious his attitude was one of a star's son who thinks he can do no wrong on film. Most of the time he went around with a face like he just swallowed a pound of crap. And his lines were bratty and he deserved a slap across the face by Conelly more than once. What a little jerk. Ruined the film.
