Paving the way for the production and release of "The Avengers," Marvel announced today an adjusted release pipeline for its self-produced feature film properties that reflects the first time individual super hero characters and story arcs will be inter-woven and culminate in a multi-character motion picture.
As per the revised schedule, the release date of the multi-character superhero film 'The Avengers' has been extended by about a year to May 4, 2012, from July 15, 2011.
'Thor', the big-screen adaptation of one of Marvel's popular comic book characters, will now release on June 17, 2011, instead of July 16, 2010, the company said.
"This new schedule strongly sequences Marvel's movie debut dates, big screen character introductions and momentum. It maximizes the visibility of our single character-focused films, leading to the highly anticipated release of the multi-character 'The Avengers' film in 2012," said David Maisel, Chairman, Marvel Studios.
The company now plans to release 'The First Avenger: Captain America' on July 22, 2011, instead of May 6, 2011.
However, 'Iron Man 2' will be released as scheduled on May 7, 2010, Marvel said.
Marvel also confirmed that Sony Pictures will release 'Spider-Man 4' on May 6, 2011. Marvel has licensed theatrical rights of Spider-Man, its most popular character, to the unit of Sony.

They probably haven't finished the script or if they did they are probably rewriting it giving it the finishing touches to then send out to agents.

WTF is Tobey still playing Spiderman? Smart move on Marvel to have two films come out on 2011 May and July. Does this mean the third Batman film will come out on 2012.

yeah marvels revising the release dates to focus on one character... sounds more like they cant get their shit together with the pre production, plus theyre probably waiting for the economy to get better, supposing it does, since theyve been nothing but cheap so far.

Cap

I heard Neal McDonough was being considered for Cap. Probably just a rumor though. My pick would be Jason O'Mara from Life on Mars. I can totally picture it..

Favreau doing Avengers
Commented By: valmurph on 2009-03-12 15:52:49
Whats the bets that they are delaying Avengers so that Favreau can helm it after Iron Man 2? he's expressed interest in it before, but there was no way he couldve done it if they wanted it ready for 2011

Three superhero films in one Year???
Commented By: JOFORSAKEN on 2009-03-12 19:29:37
WOW Thor, Captain America and Spider Man same year (2011)? All three only about a month apart from each other? How would people react to that, specially the ones who do not really follow superheroes and are only looking for a good movie. I will go and see them, but I am sure it will be overwhelming for others and it might hurt marvel and their efforts!

Hulk?
Commented By: Mad Fadder on 2009-03-12 22:19:44
My question is how are they going to add the hulk into this? they start it at the end of incredible hulk, but then tony stark decides to wait it out? weird. if theyre gonna wait so long for cap and thor, they need to have some big cameo type scenes. and they need to either do another hulk movie, but even better than both the others, or put a cameo for him some way in as well.
ps- justice league please

Hulk

There is no Avenger movie if Hulk is not part of it , every effort should be made for the Hulk to at least show up in cameo roles in all the independant films as to keep his character relative to the Avenger movie.
