Transformers 2 not a set up for 3
By Edgar 'El Toro' Arce on June 5, 2008

Michael Bay recently spoke with the people over at
MTV Movie Blog about setting up a third sequel for the Transformers franchise, with some sort of cliffhanger or story line. Much like
Back to the Future or more recently
Pirates of the Caribbean, cliffhangers are a very familiar plot device in films theses days
Cliffhangers are a thing of movie history. Years ago weekly serials on television as well as cinema, cliffhangers did exactly what they’re suppose to do. They are devices to have you tune in or go to the cinema the following week, month, or year to see what happens next. Michael Bay doesn’t like that. He thinks it lame. Bay says that
Transformers 2 won’t be a lame sequel therefore there won’t be any cliffhangers in it to set up another one. It will be a stand alone film. Now I feel that a cliffhanger, done properly can work. I for one think that the one they did for Iron Man wasn’t so subtle, and actually was in your face, but accomplished a lot. It created buzz, excitement, without being lame. I think Bay can do the same, but maybe he just doesn’t master the talent or creativity at being subtle.
Regardless,
Transformers 2 will be a stand alone film, with more robots and action that you can ask for. There are various photos right now showing filming of
Transformers 2 providing more of the same that the first had. Giant sets, big production, and lots of big toys and military personnel.
TFW2005 got a hold of set pics of the film while they were filming some action sequences from the Bethlehem set. In some of the pics we see a helicopter in various stages of flight patterns, but what’s curious about it, is that it has a yellow device attached to it. It looks like it could be radar of some sort, or maybe a weapon we haven’t seen before. Whatever it is, it’s obvious in all the photos. One another photo that’s interesting is the apparent battle taking place at a giant factory-type building. There’s a lot of action and explosives, which to me almost looks like a climactic battle. Could it be the end of the film or the set up? We’ll have to wait and see.

Fans will flock to this film just like they did the first one, and maybe that’s Bay’s motivation for just making a stand alone film. One thing Bay should remember is that any film done poorly will be lame….cliffhanger or no cliffhanger. He should feel fortunate that he has in his hands a franchise where the fans will most likely be more forgiving, if he were to produce a lame duck at this point. Give me your thoughts.
Are you a fan of cliffhangers? Or do you prefer each film be its own adventure, and resolution without a setup for the next?
Did the Iron Man tease at the end of the film excite you ? Or did you think it was LAME?
