At today's Fast & Furious junket, Vin Diesel, who is cool as shit by the way, spoke openly about his future projects. What's interesting about Vin is that you can see he is truly, truly, excited about the work he does. About how he wants it done right. And whether you like him or not, you have to respect that.
Paul (Walker) mentioned you had ideas about a Fast and Furious 5, about how it could go to Europe. Are you already thinking, after this opens, that...
Vin: Yes. Yes. I think a few pictures at a time ahead. I try to work out stories in the way I approach sequels. In that, Coppola way. I try to think out the story, even before we go to shoot the film that's at hand. So yes, I have been thinking about it. I actually brought up the idea of shooting both of the movies back to back to the President of Universal. He was like, "What? We're just getting our feet back together."
If this movie is a big hit, will it finally enable you to get Hannibal off the ground?
Vin: We hope, right? In theory, yes. To be 100% honest, I think the studio might be a little bit, and I can understand, apprehensive about giving me a budget that big to direct. So the question has been, and is what probably has held the film back from being realized, "Do I have to direct it?"
And?
Vin: I would ask you that. Do I have to direct it or, do I produce it, get my voice on it, you know, put my mojo on it, and let someone else direct it that the studio would feel comfortable with with that size budget.
The third Riddick, you've been talking about that being a Ramboesque, bare bones smaller scale Riddick. Would that close the trilogy? Or are you planning a third Riddick after that?
Vin: I talked about Riddick as being The Fellowship in the Tolkien series. I was using Pitch Black as The Hobbit, as an independent story that introduces you to the world of Middle Earth, and then taking The Chronicles of Riddick and treating it as a trilogy that goes from the story that you saw, to the Underverse, and ultimately to Furia in the third film.
You said David is currently writing the third right now?
Vin: He's currently writing the third. It's hot. But to answer your question, about the scaled down aspect. Yes, there is a scaled down portion of this that goes back to the Pitch Black style. So if you think of Pitch Black as an introduction to the world, and you think of Lord of the Rings, and I'm just using this as a parallel, you think of it as a trilogy, you would think of Chronicles of Riddick as the first in a trilogy.
And what about reviving Xander Cage? How would they do that since they blew your scalp off?
Vin: Ha! Rob Cohen found a way to incorporate that into the story years ago, and he's just now able to implement it.
Will a XXX 3 happen you think?
Vin: Should I do it?
Ya.
Vin: That's all I need to hear!
After the junket was over, Vin still talked about Hannibal. Should he direct it? Should he let someone else do it?
He said, "If it's in service of telling a great story, Because at the end of the day, you just want to see an incredible Hannibal. And you'd hope, that even if I'm not directing it, all of the work, the development that's been put into it will shine and that you will see that, and that it will speak to you. And the message and the integrity behind the story, and the passion that I've held on to, and that you know has driven me in the hope of telling that story, is present. The question is, how can I maintain that, and make a studio feel comfortable."
Look for the full interview coming soon.

He should have done a sequels to The Pacifier...that was a good family film...and should be a film franchise.
As far as The Chronicles of Riddick, save for its opening prologue...and its ending, where Riddick falls back into the throne chair and realizes that he has been made leader of his enemies, the film was a tremendous waste, and badly written, and filmed. Dark Fury, the animated sequel to Pitch Black was much better. The Chronicles of Riddick really needs a new edit...and better special effects. The planetary assault scene was shot so badly, much of it needs to be edited from the film. As well, the vast majority of the Necromonger footage needs to be edited out...and the prison scenes trimmed. And much of what we saw in the film, in terms of FX looked shotty, at best. They should use the FX company Zoic famous for Firefly, Buffy and the new Battlestar Galactica, to redo the effects and much of the production design...and then, re-release the film to DVD and cable. I think it would have a positive psychological effect on the film in terms of the views of fans and critics, and that can only help any future sequels in the marketplace, that may be filmed.

WHY?

QUESTION: Why all of a sudden does he think he can come out with sequels? He can't get any other roles? Oh well, I think he's a good actor.......I guess franchises are the only thing he can get right now........

Make as much Riddick as you want Vin
Commented By: Clem on 2009-03-14 08:56:45
Instead of studios trotting out Star Wars and Star Trek every so often, they should be out trying new things like Riddick did. The character can fit into so many different situations, there is literally no status quo for that universe. It's whatever you want it to be. Just as long as Riddick gets to kill a few mercs with teacups, it's all gravy baby.

sorry the only thing he did that worked was Pitch Black. He should have stuck with those aliens and did a Sigornet Weaver move where he is constantly battling those things ion the dark. That Riddick flick was lame.

Vin Diesel was made for Riddick and The Chronicles being the first in a trilogy excites me more. With the new game "Dark Athena",Fast And Furious 5 & XXX III
Diesel is the best.
PS:Diesel should think seriously of making XXX III fast to cover up Ice Cube's mess.

What Hannibal is he referring to: Hannibal Lector or Hannibal the leader with elephants?Anyway Chronicles of Riddick was a great movie with a great surprise at the end. Him being the leader of the Necromongers was brilliant....But Babylon A.D. what the hell was that movie about and he should not put that piece of crap on his resume. Now Fast and Furious 4 looks like a kick ass movie.....XXX 3 bring it on Xander Cage.

Hannibal Answer
Commented By: Sanzee on 2009-03-16 15:58:36
Vin Deisel has been known to have some talent. However, if you look at his track record you will clearly see that most of his movies were pretty shitty. Am I saying he is the reason? Yes and No. In other words, I do not fucking know. If he has yet to master his true talent (like creativity perhaps) I can always wait, but it's only fair you judge this guy off of his past.
As for the whole Hannibal thing, you need not worry. They're talking about the general who led the army of elephant-riding badasses. No studio would trust Vin with a remake of the psychothriller Hannibal. Plus it only came out like what.. not even a decade ago? Anyways, Vin does better as a creative director. And I respect him because he understsands his own flaws.
The man is fucking badass, straight up, but everyone here knows that Vin Diesel will never win an Oscar or Academy Award for Best Actor or even Best Director. He'll always be that one strong bald white guy who had a few creative ideas, but a trophy case full of Razzies.
