Will Smith's Oldboy Based Off Graphic Novel, Not The Korean Film. By George 'El Guapo' Roush on November 21, 2008 Ok, so as earlier reported with much disgust, Will Smith and Steven Spielberg were looking to do an American version of Oldboy. This of course, got everyone up in arms screaming, "Burn in Hell Will Smith!" and, "If you make this a remake of the Korean horror movie, I will club a baby seal once a day for thirty days straight." Looks like won't be an actual remake according to Film School Rejects who caught up with Will Smith's ego at the movie premiere of his latest Will Smith masterpiece, Seven Pounds of Enormous Arrogance: "We’re looking at that right now. Not the film though, it’s the original source material. There’s the original comics of ‘Oldboy’ that they made the first film from.
