Yes Man Makes A Positive Debut At #1 Over The Box Office Weekend
By George 'El Guapo' Roush on December 21, 2008
Will Smith is still on the phone with his agents and publicists, making sure that the weekend box office numbers weren't tampered with in any way. The Smith household has held an emergency Scientology meeting to try and earn extra Beta-Carotine credits from the planet Cuckoo so he can be #1 at the box office this weekend.

Unfortunately for Will and his brood, it's not going to happen. Jim Carrey comes back to comedy and it pays off with a #1 weekend debut for Yes Man with $18.2 million. Will Smith has to suck in the pride and deal with looking at Carrey from behind as his new movie pounds its way in 2nd place with $16 million.

The ugliest cartoon ever made, The Tale of Despereaux is 3rd with $10.5 million, and as predicted, The Day The Earth Stood Still would have a massive second weekend drop off of -67% once word of mouth got out that it sucked balls.

Four Christmases crosses the $1000 million mark earning $7.7 million. It shares the $100 million top ten spotlight with Twilight and Quantum of Solace.

Other than that, not much happening over the weekend. People are too busy shopping for X-mas to go see movies. The much heralded Slumdog Millionaire did great business coming in 8th place with $3.2 million in its 6th week of release. It's impressive because it's only showing on 589 screens.

This week will be a gigantic battle royal for the box office with Benjamin Button, the really, really good Marley & Me, Valkyrie, The Spirit, Revolutionary Road and Bedtime Stories fighting for the most space under the Christmas theater tree.

The Problem Seven pounds had was no one had any idea what the goddamn movie is about. The trailers made the film seem dull and unappealing.
